It is not difficult to understand why the guardian announced this as ‘probably the most beautiful bookstore in the world’. It is a very unique and unusual location for a bookstore. Because of the design of the bookshelf, you are allowed to experience the architectural structure in a close up. The bookshelf is constructed as a walk-in shelf going over three stories. The designers, Merkx Girod, has been true to the church´s architecture, and that is what makes it so powerful. It must be magical walking up the stairs, and have a view from the third level; even stand at the ground floor looking up and experience the dimensions of the church probably gives an exceptional view. Great wow-factor!

Japanese architecture always fascinates me. This space is designed by GENETO. The images is of an empty space with no personal items, which you might think is a bit boring. But what I like is the contrast with the white architecture frame and the dark floors and space. Like the way they have build up the different rooms in the same dark material, creating a interesting streamlined space.
I do have a love for Japanes architecture. They have an own skill to create beautiful architecture in small places and this house is an perfect example. Their attention to shape, light and space is amazing. Yes, you as a scandinavian might think the building is a bit cold with all its concrete and lack of warm wood texture. But I think that the interesting angles makes up for it. It is amazing that such a tiny house creates so many interesting viewpoints as you can see of all the images. The architects behind this build is Sschemata, recommend you checking out their site, many great pieces of work. Found via and images from One off mag.

A danish architect couple have found peace in this old barn and turned it into a modern and minimalistic home. A stylish and warm home, in a typical nordic style . Large parts of the house is covered with plywood boards that are placed in different lengths and directions, that create lines alongside the years of the woodwork. The raw concrete floor is a contrast to the woodwork and makes the look a bit rougher. Plywood panels does its use both on walls and ceilings, and bring the beautiful surroundings of nature inside the barn and creates a calm and harmonic feeling to the interior.

Did you think it was unfinished? No this is a finished project (2001) by Olson Kundig Architects. They have kept the originality of the building. From the pictures it looks like they have used original elements even as roomdividers. I really fancy the industrial patina that identifies this office space. It is rough and industrial and very basic in its facilities.

I think this house, even though very minimalistic, express a sort of warm and calm. Rough material as concrete is used all over, but does not make the house cold and hostile. Thats because it is in combination with wood and soft textiles. Love the orange against the gray concrete. And the kitchen! Well its to die for! If you are into concrete kitchen I suggest you take a look at an earlier blog post we have written, here. Or this cool concrete kitchen! This beautiful house is located in the south of France and is designed by Robert Mills Architects.
