Xcoma Bar in China – raw and edgy

Xcoma bar in China has a great charachter. It is raw and edgy, in an non-formal environment. The space is long and narrow and covers only 50 sqm. The design highlights the shape of the space with the long wooden benches and the long bar encounter. The palette of white, wood and raw exposed concrete is extremely trendy, and gives the space a relaxed and non formal atmosphere. Simple but beautiful. Designed by KUU

From metal to wood

This apartment was refurbished first time in 2005 by the russian architect Peter Kostelov, using almost only industrial materials throughout the apartment. The original one bedroom studio apartment was reconstructed into a few more separate rooms including a spacious living room, a bedroom, study room, library, two wardrobe rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a lavatory and shower for guests. And as you can see the concept was given a very masculine and raw edge. Scroll down to see the transformation seven years later.

Seven years later the same apartment has gotten a softer look. The layout is still the same, but the metal materials have been replaced by timber walls. So the once cold and pretty harsh interior now appears warm and soft and a lot more light is allowed into the space. Now it balance perfectly between the feminine and masculine approach. It still got a industrial look, just a lot more softer. Never underestimate the power of materials and its structure. A great transformation!

Fabbrica Restaurant – warm and modern interior by Studio Tjep

Restaurant Fabbrica in Bergen, Netherlands is a modern style Italian trattoria. It is focus on materials and a genuine experience. The designers from Studio Tjep are inspired by the experience of enjoying a great dinner on a train while looking at nice landscapes. So therefore the cool and modern train cabins in wood and pastel colours. They have created a great balance between a feminine and masculine look. It’s brought in different style elements to get the right balance. It is feminine pastels with romantic chandeliers against a graphic and rough industrial style. And of course in any Italian trattoria you need a real pizza oven, and this one is definitely done with style, covered in mosaic Bisazza tiles. Their first Fabbrica restaurant was open in Rotterdam 2005 and is also worth a look.

Industriell arbeidsplass

Did you think it was unfinished? No this is a finished project (2001) by Olson Kundig ArchitectsThey have kept the originality of the building. From the pictures it looks like they have used original elements even as roomdividers. I really fancy the industrial patina that identifies this office space. It is rough and industrial and very basic in its facilities.

The same architect who has created Atelier Mecanic has transformed this venue to a cafeteria slash library. Corvin Cristian is an educated architect, but he has a broader field of work than just architecture. His portfolio consists of TV production, art director, scenography, set designer and advertising. With such a creative cv, I even more appreciate the simple expression he chooses in his design. A simple roughness. The room is stripped down to the concrete and is added elements like mosaics, graphic décor, a mix of different seating furniture and simple shelves for books and magazines.

Industriell patina

Industrial patina in its own pure beauty. For some taking over a house like this means modernising, new painting and removal of the rundown walls from earlier occupants, for some its about emphasize the history and let the old teared surfaces shine up.Even highlight it. And that is just what´s been done to this Swedish house. The house get to tells its story through materials and the untouched surfaces. Isn´t it beautiful?

10 flotte hjemmekontor – Industrial Style!

We do write a lot about the industrial interior style and that is because we love it. Here we have collected 10 inspirational home office spaces. Even though none of the chairs below would classify as good ergonomic chair. I think you can come a long way to create a style like this with a metallic desk and vintage desk lamp. And choose metal and wooden accessories and you are almost there. And maybe a classic Eames chair would do the trick in an office space like this! At least its a big more comfy to sit on.
