On a cliff in southern Sri Lanka you can spot this architectural concrete dream of a house. It is completed to perfection by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando. It is a great balance of contrasts, the heavy concrete surface is perfectly emphasized by the open and spatial plan; light and shadow unfold the exciting structure. And there are no superlatives to describe the open roof terrace with the fantastic eternity pool.

Difficult not to notice this modern patio house in IJburg, Amsterdam. VMX Architects played with structure and colour and not the idea of blending in when they created this project. It is nothing like the other houses on the same row, but because it follows the same architectural shape as the other houses it somehow seem perfectly fitted in to the neighborhood. The bright yellow facade pops out and stands out as a beautiful piece of modern architecture. The inside is dominated by rough concrete and clean withe surfaces; and to bring the great statement of a beautiful facade, some yellow elements are added to the interior.

The designers, UdA, call this project Boxing Life. I love the clean lines and minimalistic approach, yet focus on a personal touch when it comes to details. It is a great mix of materials. And in the middle of the straight and clean lines you have the curved living room which stands out with its organic form and design. The use of black makes the whole apartment a bit dramatic, it gives the warm wood and the brass a great contrast. Loving it!
Et danskt arkitektpar har funnet roen i denne gamle låven og forvandlet den til et moderne og minimalistisk hjem. Et stilrent og varmt hjem, med en typisk nordisk stilretning. Store deler av boligen er dekket med treplater som er lagt i ulike lengder og retninger så det skaper et ekstra linjespill i tillegg til mønsteret i treverket. Det råe betonggulvet skaper en kontrast og gjør uttrykket litt røffere. Finerplatene gjør sin nytte både på vegger og i tak, og er med på å trekke de naturskjønne omgivelsene inn og skaper en ro og harmoni i interiøret.
A danish architect couple have found peace in this old barn and turned it into a modern and minimalistic home. A stylish and warm home, in a typical nordic style . Large parts of the house is covered with plywood boards that are placed in different lengths and directions, that create lines alongside the years of the woodwork. The raw concrete floor is a contrast to the woodwork and makes the look a bit rougher. Plywood panels does its use both on walls and ceilings, and bring the beautiful surroundings of nature inside the barn and creates a calm and harmonic feeling to the interior.

Jeg synes dette huset, selv tross i sitt svært minimalistiske formspråk uttrykker en helhetlig varme. Grovt materiale som betong brukes gjennomgående, men gjør ikke huset kaldt og uhyggelig. Mye av grunnen er at betong er i kombinasjon med tre og myke tekstiler. Den knalle oransjfargen mot den grå betongen er en perfekt sammensetning. Og kjøkkenet! Ja dette er mitt drømmekjøkken! I think this house, even though very minimalistic, express a sort of warm and calm. Rough material as concrete is used all over, but does not make the house cold and hostile. Thats because it is in combination with wood and soft textiles. Love the orange against the gray concrete. And the kitchen! Well its to die for! Betong er en favoritt og her er det brukt i en minimalistiske iskrem butikk. Og jeg elsker det råe uttrykket. Ja, du tenker kanskje at uttrykket er litt kaldt, men jeg synes det er en god idé å bruke en nøytral bakgrunn og la de friske fargenen på produktetene bli fremhevet. Som her, spretter de sterke fargenene på iskremen ut! Det minner meg om en annen rålekker butikk Theurel Thomas Patisserie som bare selger vakre makroner som vi skrev om for en stund siden, interiøret var i hvitt, så de søte makronene sto ut. Smart! Polka Gelato er lokalisert i London og interiør og identitet er designet av Vonsung. Er også morsomt å se hvordan møblene som er valgt i butikken gjenspeiler logoen. Funnet via Dezeen
Concrete, we meet again in this minimalistic ice cream shop. And I do love the look of it. Yes you might think the expression is a bit cold, but I think its a great idea to use a neutral backdrop and let the delicious color of your product shine. Like here, the strong color of the ice cream pops out! It remind me of another gorgeous macron shop Theurel Thomas Patisserie we wrote about a while ago, the interior was in white, so the sweet macrons stood out. Clever! Polka Gelato is located in London and interior and identity is designed by Vonsung. And also fun how the furniture chosen in the shop is reflecting the logo. Found via Dezeen.
Fins det noe så vakkert var det første jeg tenkte da jeg bladde meg fram til reportasjen om villaen til den spanske arkitekten Jordi Garces, i det svenske magasinet Residence. Rent, minimalistisk og med havet som eneste nabo. Perfekt for å finne roen. Jeg er egentlig ingen typisk minimalist, men dette falt jeg pladask for.
