Mangolds – a refreshing vegetarian restaurant

As a designer I believe one essential key to a successful restaurant (besides really good food)  is a unity between retail and graphics. Mangolds, a vegetarian restaurant in Austria is a good example on how a holistic approach can turn out. With attention to every detail like, food, interior, material, signage, menu, type and packaging, this is how refreshing and appealing a restaurant can look. The agency behind all the visuals is Moodley, images from their site. Are you interested in other great retail concept with good graphics? We how all our content tagged under Branding and Graphics.

St Chad’s Place Bar & Restaurant

A rustic and industrial  restaurant situated in an old warehouse in Kings Cross London. The space is decorated with simplicity in mind with a long white bar as a centerpiece. The old wall bricks is sand blast and the original timber roof construction is a great reminder of the history of the building. The roof windows creates great light and plays with consistent shifting daylight and shadows. The full height doors have been reinstated and draws you directly in to the cozy place. Enjoy a great meal of breakfast, lunch tapas or hang out in the bar at night and soak in the great atmosphere of a modern and trendy warehouse transformation.

Nandos in Ashford – characteristic atmosphere

Nandos is a casual dinner chain who specialise in portuguese-style chicken. And as many other they have seen the value in creating an environmental experience as much as a food experience. The interiors are dominated by wood with turquoise details. Even some yellow is added to break up the monochrome palette and makes it a bit more playful. The high ceiling is painted black and stays anonymous. The wooden structure coming down gives the space a clever and great visual character. Tables and chair are customised by Andy Thornton and are given surfaces to fit the interior perfectly. It is not the first time Blacksheep gives great personality to the restaurant business, by other they have done the design to a number of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, the latest one was his new concept Union Jacks in Holborn, London. Both Union Jacks and this Nando’s in Ashford, Kent, is given retro elements, but still they express two totally different brands with totally different style.

Another Jamie concept – Union Jacks

Jamie Oliver is a well known name for most people, especially if you like a good meal. His latest concept is the Pizzeria Union Jacks and with him on the team he has got London based designstudio Blacksheep, who has already designed a number of his other restaurants. It has got a modern vintage look with neon Union Jacks sign above the cinema styled menu boards, the different patterns and graphics are typical retro, the chairs and the television is from the 1970s and the diner booth is so typical for a retro diner. The restaurant is situated in Holborn, so after finishing up with your shopping in Covent Garden head towards Tottenham Court Rd and stop for lunch.

A modern pastry

A modern designed pastry in San Pedro Mexico. At a first glance I would guess it was a fashionable makeup or perfume store, but that is of course before the close up at the pastries. It is some exciting meetings between materials and style. The old bricks against the back wall that is covered in golden wallpaper makes a great new meets old contrast. The round chandelier breaks up the rectangular shape and draws your attention to the high ceiling. A beautiful and surprising design to a pastry that started out as a home based bakery. Another great looking bakery is Kubitscheck in Munich, just another style. Or if you like the pure black/white style this ice cream shop in London also have a great retail look combined with good graphic design and branding.

Rio cinema in Stockholm – 1940`s cinema in transformation

Now I know where to see a movie next time I am in Stockholm. Designstudio 1:2:3 and Kristoffer Sundin have designed the interior and the graphic identity of Rio cinema in Stockholm.. They have carefully transformed it into a modern space, without changing its original appearance. The new aim with the space was to create a design functional for different range of activities. The cinema houses different activities, beside showing films it is a venue for seminars, theater, musical performances, installations, opera shows and other cultural events. The furniture and lighting is adaptable and can be changed into single tables with light over each table, or you can make it in to one large seating group with all the lamps in a cluster. Tables and light are specially designed for this space. Check out Rio`s event program here.

Hotel Daniel – Contemporary and stylish

Hotel Daniel in Vienna, Austria is fronted as smart luxury and urban stay. From the picture to judge, it looks like a lovely relaxing and trendy hotel. Open and inviting spaces with a green approach. You can chose from four different room types, so easy to find something to match your wish list as well a your wallet. I would definitely love to go there. Waking up in the hammock with a city life on the front step sounds very tempting.
