St Chad’s Place Bar & Restaurant

A rustic and industrial  restaurant situated in an old warehouse in Kings Cross London. The space is decorated with simplicity in mind with a long white bar as a centerpiece. The old wall bricks is sand blast and the original timber roof construction is a great reminder of the history of the building. The roof windows creates great light and plays with consistent shifting daylight and shadows. The full height doors have been reinstated and draws you directly in to the cozy place. Enjoy a great meal of breakfast, lunch tapas or hang out in the bar at night and soak in the great atmosphere of a modern and trendy warehouse transformation.

Nandos in Ashford – characteristic atmosphere

Nandos is a casual dinner chain who specialise in portuguese-style chicken. And as many other they have seen the value in creating an environmental experience as much as a food experience. The interiors are dominated by wood with turquoise details. Even some yellow is added to break up the monochrome palette and makes it a bit more playful. The high ceiling is painted black and stays anonymous. The wooden structure coming down gives the space a clever and great visual character. Tables and chair are customised by Andy Thornton and are given surfaces to fit the interior perfectly. It is not the first time Blacksheep gives great personality to the restaurant business, by other they have done the design to a number of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, the latest one was his new concept Union Jacks in Holborn, London. Both Union Jacks and this Nando’s in Ashford, Kent, is given retro elements, but still they express two totally different brands with totally different style.

Another Jamie concept – Union Jacks

Jamie Oliver is a well known name for most people, especially if you like a good meal. His latest concept is the Pizzeria Union Jacks and with him on the team he has got London based designstudio Blacksheep, who has already designed a number of his other restaurants. It has got a modern vintage look with neon Union Jacks sign above the cinema styled menu boards, the different patterns and graphics are typical retro, the chairs and the television is from the 1970s and the diner booth is so typical for a retro diner. The restaurant is situated in Holborn, so after finishing up with your shopping in Covent Garden head towards Tottenham Court Rd and stop for lunch.

IdeasToSteal and Elle Decoration met for a early morning coffee and had a great chat. This resulted in a collaboration. So from now on we will not only be at our own blog, but also as a guestblogger at Norwegian Elle Decoration´s webside. Elle Decoration did an interview with us you can read here. First article is a sequel to Elle Decorations portrait interview of Jonathan Adler, who finally launches his colourful collection in Norway. While Elle met him in Paris, we were invited to his new store opening in London. His first international store.

Camper Store i London – Perspektivets eksperiment

You´d better know what you are doing, to manage to make this perspective illusion only by tiles, grids and colours, like it has been done in Camper Store in Covent Garden. You won´t miss it at the corner of Shelton Street and Neal StreetTomas Alonso has created an extremely interesting interior with his distinctive design and experimental expression.

Funnet via Dezeen

Concrete, we meet again in this minimalistic ice cream shop. And I do love the look of it. Yes you might think the expression is a bit cold, but I think its a great idea to use a neutral backdrop and let the delicious color of your product shine. Like here, the strong color of the ice cream pops out! It remind me of another gorgeous macron shop Theurel Thomas Patisserie we wrote about a while ago, the interior was in white, so the sweet macrons stood out. Clever! Polka Gelato is located in London and interior and identity is designed by Vonsung. And also fun how the furniture chosen in the shop is reflecting the logo. Found via Dezeen.

Falmouth Townhouse Hotel i idylliske Cornwall

This place brings back good memories. The reason is that I studied 3 years in Falmouth where this hotel is located. For those not familiar with Cornwall and never have been there, I can inform you that it is without doubt the most beautiful place in England. It’s the summer holiday destination to the Englishmen, here you find long white beaches and palm trees. I’m not kidding. And the county has a distinctive arts and cultural scene. With places like the museum Tate  St.Ives (lovely place). I recognize the property and I look forward to the next time I will be visiting friends there, because I live here! Interior design is by Kathryn Tyler of Linea Studio. She had a small budget and much of the furniture is purchased through ebay and locally. And it definitely gives this small hotel with only 10 rooms a unique atmosphere and edge. I love the hanging light bulb and the color combination in this place. And my favorite thing is the old chair that’s been reupholstered in bright yellow fabric.

PLACE: Falmouth Townhouse Hotel //  LOCATION: Grove Place, Falmouth, Cornwall  //  SIZE: 10 rooms  // PRICE: From 85-120 Pounds a night  //  INTERIOR DESIGNER: Kathryn Tyler

Barbican foodhall London

Barbican center is Europe’s largest arts and conference venue, and under the same roof is also this cafe I am tending to visit on my next London trip. It´s a typical place I could sit for hours and just enjoying the company of some good magazines. A lovely atmosphere.
