Playhouse for the kids

This wonderful playhouse, X-HUS is designed by Studio 17. A little Norwegian company with two architects Christine Petersen and Anne Frøydis Linnerud. Both mothers, they came up with the idea to X-Hus after realizing that a quality product like this did not exist for kids. The playhouse is produced here in Norway and comes flat packed, and easy to put together. Made out of 6 mm thick plywood with a footprint of 0.6 x 1.2 meters and a hight of 1.2 meters. Weight 20 kg, and cost from 3500 NOK depending on the finishing. If you are located in Oslo you can buy it from DogA.

New meets old

This month challenge from NIB is new meets old. Well, my home is filled with old treasures I have inherited from my family. And my style at home is a true mix of modern icons and old things with good memories attached to it. So this is my contributions from my dining room. What you see is old medicine bottles, which I use as vases on my dining table. And in the background is a big graffiti painting by a friend of mine. Xcoma bar in China has a great charachter. It is raw and edgy, in an non-formal environment. The space is long and narrow and covers only 50 sqm. The design highlights the shape of the space with the long wooden benches and the long bar encounter. The palette of white, wood and raw exposed concrete is extremely trendy, and gives the space a relaxed and non formal atmosphere. Simple but beautiful. Designed by KUU

How to get that hotel feeling in your bedroom

I am the first one to admit that I am not a fan of curtains anywhere in the house. I like clean dressed windows with blinds you can take up and down when you need it. BUT, it is a but. Used “right”, like on these images shown here, I think it looks fab. Hotels are using them in this fashion, so why not copy it and get that hotel feeling in your bedroom? So what are the clues? The height needs to be from ceiling to floor. Do not just frame the windows, but use them from wall to wall. Try to get the fittings hidden or incorporated in the ceiling. It also works great as a room divider, to soften up the space. Easy!

A perfect little beach hut

Why does everything have to be so grand when simplicity in its pure form like this is more than enough? This charming little beach hut is just perfect. A little nest, with all the essentials you need. A great space, and above all, a great view. With using only one material and lots of light the space feels bigger. I would love a hut like this. Cliff house completed to perfection by Tadao Ando

On a cliff in southern Sri Lanka you can spot this architectural concrete dream of a house. It is completed to perfection by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando. It is a great balance of contrasts, the heavy concrete surface is perfectly emphasized by the open and spatial plan; light and shadow unfold the exciting structure. And there are no superlatives to describe the open roof terrace with the fantastic eternity pool.

Shoes, books and a bike

Thomas Walde from the design collective Postfossil showed this at Milan Furniture Fair as a part of the design collective’s Home Made collection. It celebrates the increasingly popularity of getting around on a bike as a great ecological way of transport. So why hide it away, with this design you can frame it in and show it off as a great piece of furniture. It is not the first time we see design that are developed with the idea of function and storage of a bike.
